At long last, Tokyo DisneySea’s Fantasy Springs area is complete and we were there for the opening week! Our daughter is a Disney Princess fanatic and Rapunzel and Elsa are her two favourites. So after years of waiting and all of the hype, what did we really think of Fantasy Springs? This Disney Fantasy Springs review article will outline everything you ever wanted to know about DisneySea’s new princess paradise!

Here’s what we’ll cover in this Disney Fantasy Springs review article:

What is DisneySea’s Fantasy Springs?

Fantasy Springs is the brand new area at the Tokyo DisneySea theme park. It officially opened on June 6th, 2024 after years of anticipation from Disney fans. Thousands lined up during the opening week to experience the new area of Tokyo DisneySea.

This new area is highlighted by the Arendelle village from Frozen, Rapunzel’s tower, and a part devoted to Peter Pan. We would say that the aesthetic of Fantasy Springs is whimsical and it feels like there should be fairies flying around overhead. There are plenty of fountains and waterfalls with stone statues and rock formations of Disney characters.

Disney definitely outdid itself with Fantasy Springs and if you are a fan of Tangled or Frozen you will not be disappointed. These two movies are our daughter’s favourite so we knew we had to check it out during the opening week.

In our opinion, it is one of the best additions that Tokyo Disney has made in years. You will see later in this article that the rides are geared more towards children and not for adults. Even still, there is something for everyone to enjoy, especially if you love Frozen or Tangled!

Tokyo DisneySea Overview

What is Tokyo DisneySea? If you have never been to Tokyo Disneyland before then I can see why you might be confused. DisneySea is the sister park to the main Tokyo Disneyland park which is located in Urayasu, Chiba. They are located side-by-side but do require separate tickets or park passes to enter.

DisneySea was built in September 2001 on 176 acres of land in Urayasu. This park sees more than 10 million visitors annually and is the third-most visited theme park in Japan behind Tokyo Disneyland and Universal Studios Japan (USJ).

DisneySea has eight distinct areas for guests to visit:

  • Mediterranean Harbour
  • Mysterious Island
  • Mermaid Lagoon
  • Arabian Coast
  • Lost River Delta
  • Port Discovery
  • American Waterfront
  • Fantasy Springs

Each area has an affiliation with a Disney movie and an aquatic theme. The DisneySea rides are water-based including the Nemo & Friends Searider and the Mermaid Lagoon from the Littler Mermaid. DisneySea also includes areas that are dedicated to Toy Story, Aladdin, and Indiana Jones. There are also exclusive attractions at DisneySea including Duffy and Friends which is a popular line of stuffed animals.

Tokyo DisneySea Hours

Here is a table for Tokyo DisneySea’s hours of operation:

Days of the WeekOpening TimeClosing Time
Monday9:00 AM21:00 PM
Tuesday9:00 AM21:00 PM
Wednesday9:00 AM21:00 PM
Thursday9:00 AM21:00 PM
Friday9:00 AM21:00 PM
Saturday9:00 AM21:00 PM
Sunday9:00 AM21:00 PM

Although it says the opening time for DisneySea is 9:00 AM, the park will open its doors by 8:30 AM. Rides will not be open but stores and most food stands will be. It is also a great opportunity to reserve your spot for rides or areas later on in the day with the Disney Mobile App. You can use this app with Disney Access Premier to reserve your spot in line for rides and for areas like the new DisneySea Fantasy Springs.

DisneySea is a separate theme park from Tokyo Disneyland. You will need to pay for separate admission tickets for each park if you intend to visit both sites.

How to Access DisneySea’s Fantasy Springs?

Accessing Tokyo DisneySea is fairly simple and is easy to get to from anywhere in Tokyo. You can drive to Tokyo Disneyland if you have access to a vehicle. The easiest way to get to Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea is to take the train from Tokyo Station. You will want to board the Keiyo Line/Mushashino Line from Tokyo Station to Maihama Station in Chiba. The ride from Tokyo Station to Maihama takes about fifteen minutes. At the park opening and closing, this train can get extremely busy so be prepared to wait when leaving the park.

From Maihama Station, you will need to take the Tokyo Disney Resort Line. This train takes you to both parks as well as some of the Disney hotels on the property. The Tokyo Disney Resort Line operates between the hours of 06:31 AM to 23:30 PM every day. You will need to pay for a Tokyo Disney Resort Line ticket. The single ticket for an adult is 300 Yen and for a child under the age of eleven, it is 150 Yen.

DisneySea Fantasy Springs Rides Review

I’m sure you have seen all of the photos and videos online of the wonderful new rides at Fantasy Springs. Inside Fantasy Springs there are three distinct areas: Rapunzel’s Tower, Peter Pan’s Never Land, and of course, Arrendelle from Frozen. Since we went during the opening week, the competition to get into each area was fierce, particularly for the rides. Our daughter’s favourite movie is Tangled, so we secured our spot for Rapunzel’s Lantern Festival ride.

This ride is full of Disney Magic and has been called Disneyland’s most romantic ride ever made. You will sit on a boat with six to eight other people and ride through the various scenes from the Tangled movie. You will cruise by Rapunzel’s tower and see all of the favourite characters from the movie. Flynn Rider and Pascal make numerous appearances throughout the ride.

The centrepiece is the famous Lantern Festival scene from Tangled. The boats will float around a scene of Flynn and Rapunzel surrounded by lanterns in a beautiful homage to the movie. All while “I See the Light” plays over and over again in the background. In our younger years, this definitely would have been an incredible ride to come to for a date.

We were thrilled with Rapunzel’s Lantern Festival and it was well worth lining up and waiting for.

We did not get a chance to ride on Anna & Elsa’s Frozen Journey this time but that is next on our list. We’ll be heading back to DisneySea in December so we will report back about the Frozen ride and hopefully Peter Pan’s Never Land Adventure as well!

DisneySea Fantasy Springs Dining Review

There are not a lot of restaurant options in Fantasy Springs yet. The main dining area is located in the center of Fantasy Springs near Rapunzel’s Tower and the entrance to Arrendelle. Here you will find the Snuggly Duckling Tavern. This restaurant is from Tangled not too far from Rapunzel’s Tower. You will remember a scene where Flynn Rider takes Rapunzel inside as they escape from the tower.

The menu at the Snuggly Duckling Tavern consists of the Duckling Dream Burger and Cheeseburger. There are a few variations including the Duckling Shrimp Burger and the Duckling Plant-Based Burger. All burgers can come a la carte or as a set which includes french fries and a beverage. Other times include the Duckling Muffin, the Sweet Ever After tart, and Tangled gummies. As with most other restaurants in DisneySea Fantasy Springs, you can order with the Tokyo Disney Mobile app.

The only other food we were able to try in Fantasy Springs was the roast beef-flavoured popcorn. That’s right, you read that correctly: roast beef. What did we think about the roast beef-flavoured popcorn at DisneySea? It was fine! It definitely isn’t our favourite (that is still the garlic-shrimp flavour!). This popcorn has a powerful aroma of meat and quite a memorable flavour as well. If you’re curious, we recommend trying it because where else can you get roast beef-flavoured popcorn? It’s worth 400 yen, which is what it costs to get a small container of it so that you can say you’ve tried it!

Fantasy Springs Merchandise and Gift Shop

This is the craziest part of Fantasy Springs, at least when we were there. Why? Because it was a 45-minute wait just to get into the Fantasy Springs gift shop!

Is it worth the wait? We will admit that Fantasy Springs does have some awesome merchandise. Our daughter’s favourite was the Rapunzel Lantern Festival lantern that plays the theme song from the movie. There is a lot of great stuff from Frozen as well so if you are a fan of these movies, this gift shop is a must-visit.

Here’s a pro tip though. If you don’t have time to spare for waiting in line for the Fantasy Springs gift shop, don’t worry! Every minute at DisneySea is valuable so we understand if you want to avoid the lineup. Instead, the gift shops at the entrance to DisneySea have most of the Fantasy Springs merchandise available. There are a few things you can only get inside Fantasy Springs, but a majority of the merchandise is available outside of the area.

Our DisneySea Fantasy Springs Review

Here’s the bottom line: Fantasy Springs is one of the best additions to Tokyo DisneySea that we have experienced. Frozen and Tangled are popular choices in our household so it was a no-brainer to visit when we got the chance. It was well worth lining up at the crack of dawn in the scorching heat to get the chance to see Fantasy Springs in person.

Overall Fantasy Springs Experience4.5
Fantasy Springs Access and Entry System 3.5
Fantasy Springs Rides4.0
Fantasy Springs Dining4.0
Fantasy Springs Merchandise/Gift Shop4.5

Let’s start with the lowest score of our DisneySea Fantasy Springs Review. We weren’t fans of the access and entry system although we understand why DisneySea does it this way. It is fair and it encourages people to go early if they want the best chance at getting into Fantasy Springs. You can reserve a time slot with the Tokyo Disneyland mobile app or pay for one with the Access Premier system.

The Fantasy Springs rides were fun and were well worth the wait. We will warn you that the rides are targeting children, so they aren’t scary or exhilarating. Don’t expect a Space Mountain-like roller coaster when you come to Fantasy Springs.

Dining at Fantasy Springs was fine and a typical Disney experience. The food was tasty but it was slightly overpriced and the wait can be hard with little ones. Our recommendation is to try the Roast Beef popcorn while you are in Fantasy Springs but the rest of the food is nothing special.

Finally, the merchandise and gift shop for Fantasy Springs are incredible. If you don’t want to wait in line inside Fantasy Springs, head to the gift shops at the entrance of DisneySea to get your Fantasy Springs merchandise.

Would We Visit DisneySea’s Fantasy Springs Again?

Overall, Fantasy Springs is a magical experience and well worth the visit for anyone who is a fan of Frozen, Tangled, or Peter Pan. Would we visit Fantasy Springs again? Absolutely. In fact, we’ll be there again in the winter time so stay tuned for a further update to this article.

We’re hoping to enjoy the magic of DisneySea during Christmas time and are planning to try all of the rides this time!

That’s all for now, but as we said, this article will be updated with more Fantasy Springs information and photos after we visit again in December.
